Quiapo District, right in the center of Manila, is the cultural and religious heart of the Capital. Famous for its Churches, Markets, Architecture, and Muslim town; Quiapo is definitely a must see and must experience when one is in Manila!
Meetup at Guest’s Hotel (in Metro Manila Area)
We’ll start our exploration of the heart of Manila in the beating core of Quiapo!
The Minor Basilica of the Black Nazarene, one of only four Minor Basilicas in Manila, is the home of the faithful of Quiapo! In front of it is the historic Plaza Miranda, a popular and important social space that had shaped centuries of Philippine History
From Plaza Miranda, we’ll make our way to Echague or Palanca Street. This riverside drive is the home of Quiapo’s local Market where we’ll have a taste of two of Quiapo’s best kept secrets: Palabok de Quiapo and Halo-halo!
From the Market, we’ll venture into Manila’s Muslim Town and try out the unique halal dishes from some of the area’s best restaurants! Try out the amazing Kopi and Roti from Arabasian or the delicious muffins from June-nairah!
From Muslim Town, we go down the street to the twin houses of Bahay Boix and Bahay Nakpil-Bautista!
These two heritage homes are some of the best conserved 19th century buildings in Quiapo and are home to some of the most important families in Manila’s storied past!
From the Heritage houses along Bautista Street, we’ll walk to our next spots: the Kapihan and Turon shops of Raon and Bilibid Viejo Streets! These two are local icons that have served Quiapo for generations! Try out the coffee from a machine built in 1929 and the Turon which had fed thousands upon thousands of students!
Finally, we’ll end our tour at the other Basilica of Quiapo, the San Sebastian Church! This magnificent gothic church is the only Steel-prefabricated structure in the whole of Asia! Built by the Agustinians in the 1890s as a precaution against earthquakes, the church has been through 3 wars and thousands of weddings!
